The Summer Camp for Zhejiang University Students, jointly organized by Faculty of Health Sciences and the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering of the University of Macau (UM), was successfully held between 7 and 13 of July. There were 62 undergraduate students, master students and professors from School of Medicine, School of Materials Science & Engineering and Department of Physics of Zhejiang University (ZJU) joining this summer camp. The participants have expressed that the camp was well-organized and affirmed the benefits that it delivered.
In the opening ceremony on 8 July, Prof. Chuxia DENG, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Prof. Zikang TANG, Director of Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAPME) warmly received the participants and introduced the history and the latest developments of the University of Macau. Afterwards, the participants were divided into groups and took part in a series of activities which were meticulously arranged by the professors of FHS and IAPME. The summer camp programme included 11 thematic lectures covering a wide range of topics, such as precision medicine, cancer biology, stem cell and regenerative medicine, bioinformatics, neuroscience and neuroimaging, applied physics and materials engineering, battery materials, and light-emitting materials. The participants had in-depth discussions and exchanged ideas with the UM professors.

Under the supervision of the UM professors, the participants were also engaged in several research experiments and operated some state-of-the-art equipment. This experience allowed them to learn about the latest technologies in biomedicine, applied physics and materials and could enhance their interest in scientific research. Accompanied by the UM professors and students, the participants enjoyed a scenic campus tour to understand the history, latest developments and academic achievements of UM. Besides, the participants also joined a local tour to visit the historical and cultural landmarks in Macao, through which they experienced the unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures of Macao.

During the sharing session at the end of the summer camp, the participants indicated that the summer camp gave them a pleasant and fruitful experience. The summer camp was composed of various activities including thematic lectures, research experiments and interactive activities, which allowed them to broaden their horizons and increase their knowledge. In addition, they highly praised the research facilities and academic level of UM. They were grateful to the thoughtful arrangement of FHS and IAPME. After the summer camp, they learned more about the academic development of FHS and IAPME, research achievements of UM as well as the culture of Macao. More importantly, the summer camp well serves as a platform for research and academic interactions that will strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions.
