| Biosketch | Prof. Feng obtained his B.Sc. in Biology from Hangzhou University, M.Sc. in Immunology from the 2nd Medical University of Army, Shanghai and Ph.D. from Indiana University Bloomington. He did his postdoc work with Dr. Bryan Williams at the Hospital for Sick Children and then with Dr. Tony Pawson at the Mt Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
Prof. Feng’s research program focuses on understanding mechanisms of liver cancer development using multidisciplinary approaches, with a focus on dissecting the anti-oncogenic effects of classical oncoproteins recently identified by his group and others. Prof. Feng has published 150 peer-reviewed research papers, reviews and book chapters in Science, Nature Medicine, Cancer Cell, PNAS, Immunity, Nature Immunology, etc. He has served on editorial boards of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Journal of Hepatology. In 2016, he was elected as AAAS fellow. |
| Abstract | Shp2 and Pten are among the most extensively investigated signaling molecules, our most recent experiments showed that Shp2 and Pten act antagonistically in leukemogenesis, but cooperate to promote erythropoiesis and suppress liver carcinogenesis, revealing previously unappreciated complexity in cell signaling in various cell types and diseases. |
