| Abstract | In humans and mammals, the skin is not fully regenerated after deep injuries, the hair follicle and other appendages of the epidermis lost in the injury are largely not regenerated. We identified the essential stem cell types required for the genesis of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland. The implantation of grafts made of the stem cells seeded in a hydrogel or a synthetic scaffold to nude mice results in the neogenesis of the hair follicle and sebaceous gland. Our results suggest novel therapeutic methods for skin regeneration. |
