Talk title  Stay Hungry & Stay Healthy: Understanding the role of autophagy in cancer and beyond
Speaker Prof. Hanming SHEN
Professor
Date & Time 3 May 2019 (Fri)
10:45-11:45
Venue Room G004, E12 Building (University of Macau)
Abstract Autophagy is a highly conserved process in which cellular contents are engulfed into autophagosome and then delivered to the lysosome for degradation. It is well known that autophagy is closely implicated in many important diseases, while the exact role of autophagy in cancer remains controversial. In this talk, I will discuss some of our ongoing projects related to autophagy and metabolism in cancer, including selective killing of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with WT-EGFR/LKB1-mutation which are currently not applicable to targeted therapy with EGFR-TKI. Taken together, targeting the autophagy-lysosomal pathway carries great potential in development of novel cancer therapeutic strategies.
