I have been working in the University of Maryland for a year. My supervisor is very meticulous and demanding. I felt depressed and anxious when there was not much progress of my research at the beginning of my work.
Fortunately, FHS furnished me with solid academic foundation to overcome the difficulties. Besides, Prof. Renhe XU, my mentor in FHS, supported and encouraged me by offering me advice and guidance, which helped me to adjust my attitude and find a clear direction. His mentorship was never far away. Ultimately, I acclimated to the new environment here. My supervisor recognized my performance and also assigned me to supervise an American undergraduate student. Meanwhile, two American Ph.D. candidates would like to join my projects and conduct research work with me on stem cell technology. I have gradually carved out my own path.
FHS is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment which is better than those I encountered in China and Japan, even better than those here in Maryland. FHS armed me with expertise in conducting research with different kinds of equipment and even operating a research laboratory. All I learned in FHS is crucial to my career here.
It was really a great time I spent in FHS. The flexible and supportive environment there inspired me and developed my intellectual and personal strengths that enable me to pursue a career in academia. I will try to obtain an academic position in FHS in the near future. I wish to extend my best wishes to FHS and its members continued success in the future endeavors.
