The University of Macau Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) successfully held the 9th Symposium on Biomedical Sciences for Students, Postdoctoral Fellows and Research Assistants 2025, attracting around 200 students, academic and researchers. The symposium featured ten selected talks and showcased approximately 60 research posters covering in the areas of Cancer and Stem Cell, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Bioimaging, Development, Aging and Neuroscience, Drug Discovery and Biotechnology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and Public Health.

Dean Chuxia DENG highlighted the rapid development of FHS during the opening session, touching upon various aspects such as the ascending quantity and quality of publications; the brilliance of the academics; and the growing number of undergraduates. He emphasised the symposium as an open platform for all participants to discuss ideas freely, and instructed students and researchers to facilitate more collaborations on their path to achieve their goals. Additionally, he encouraged participants to take full advantage of this opportunity for collaborative learning, active engagement in discussions, and educational pursuits, with the aim of acquiring valuable insights from the symposium.

In the closing speech, Associate Dean (Research) Ren-He XU highlighted the successful symposium and congratulated the 12 winners of the speeches and eight winners of the posters. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organising committee, primarily composed of postgraduate students, and the helpers for their great efforts, and said that the symposium strengthened the participants’ competitiveness by conducting talks and presenting posters on their research achievements.

The symposium was mainly organised by postgraduate students, aiming to develop their leadership and organisational skills and provide a platform to showcase their research achievements. This effort not only helps to enhance their academic competitiveness but also promotes their growth and development in the academic field.
