A ceremony was held in Guangdong Province to celebrate International Labour Day and honour model workers, advanced individuals, and advanced collectives. General Secretary Jinping XI delivered an important speech, expressing high hopes for the Chinese working class and all working people to strive for new achievements on the new journey and make contributions in the new era. During the commendation ceremony, Professor Chen Guokai, Dean of the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) and Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Macau (UM), was honoured and received the “Model Worker” award.
Prof. Chen has long been dedicated to the study of molecular regulatory mechanisms of human embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. He previously served as Associate Dean of FHS. Prof. Chen stated that the honour of being named a “Model Worker” is not only a recognition of his individual efforts, but also a recognition of ZUMRI’s role in promoting industry-academia-research collaboration and the synergistic development of Zhuhai and Macau. “ZUMRI will continue to play a pivotal role as a bridgehead for industry-academia-research cooperation between Macao and the Greater Bay Area, promoting the commercialisation of mature, market-potential basic research results accumulated by UM, and deepening the connection between Macao’s advantages in basic research and the industrial needs of the Greater Bay Area.”
“We will firmly remember the General Secretary’s instructions on technological innovation,” Prof. Chen says. “We will continue to promote the in-depth integration of industry, academia, and research between Zhuhai and Macao with a spirit of striving, and contribute to the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.”
