In an impressive showcase of academic excellence, 12 scholars from FHS have been named among the top 2% of scientists globally, as identified in the latest edition of the ‘Updated Science-wide Author Databases of Standardised Citation Indicators’, compiled by Stanford University and released recently. This prestigious recognition highlights the exceptional calibre of research conducted at FHS, underscoring its commitment to maintaining world-class standards in scientific inquiry.

The database, developed by a research team led by Prof John IOANNIDIS, is divided into two lists, based on scholars’ career-long (1960-2024) and single recent year (2024) impact, recognising their lifetime achievement and recent research impact respectively. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists globally by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field, grouped into 22 subject fields and 174 sub-fields. The lists were based on indicators including citations, scientific research output and a composite indicator for citation impact, up to the end of 2024.

A total of 12 FHS scholars are included in the single recent year (2024) list. Of those, six of them are also ranked in the career-long list. Notable mentions include Dean Chuxia DENG, who has achieved exceptional recognition in the career-long rankings, placing 90th among all scientists from China. In the field of Biomedical Research, Dean Deng ranked 20th nationally in 2024 (6th in career-long list), and he is placed 10th nationally in the subfield of Developmental Biology in 2024 (4th in career-long list). Additionally, Associate Dean Hanming SHEN achieved the rank of 8th in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology among Chinese scientists in 2024, coming from last year’s 32nd position. Associate Dean Shen also ranked 98th nationally in the field of Biomedical Research, and 22nd nationally in the subfield of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the career-long list.

The full list of awardees is included on the right (in alphabetical order).

This recognition not only celebrates the individual achievements of FHS scholars but also highlights the faculty’s pivotal role in advancing knowledge and innovation in health sciences on a global scale. The rankings serve as a powerful affirmation of FHS’s dedication to producing impactful research that resonates within the international academic community.
