Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
Programme Description
Public health is a multidisciplinary field that aims to improve the health of the population by preventing disease and promoting life quality, and it is an interdisciplinary research area that involves knowledge in epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, nutrition, food safety, social medicine and management of health services. Public health is stressing on diminishing the health gaps and generating a sustainable output in healthcare globally. Although public health places greater priority on prevention, it also embraces curative, rehabilitative, and other aspects of clinical medicine and the study of basic sciences. The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) programme aims to train health professionals with skills in leadership roles, including the use of sound methodological approaches and innovative thinking that can be translated into real-world applications with specific focus in the areas of population health, health systems, chronic diseases and recovery from emergencies with public health consequences.
Programme Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:
- Identify and critique the breadth of evidence required to understand public health and health system problems from different disciplinary perspectives in local and global settings.
- Design and implement original applied research directly relevant to public health, health system policy and/or practice that generate new knowledge.
- Make informed and sound judgments on complex issues in public health and health systems, sometimes requiring new approaches and management strategies.
- Apply all available current knowledge of public health and health systems theories in applied research.
- Effectively lead teams and inform decision-making about public health or health systems policies, programmes, global health and spot practice.
- Assess and apply effective knowledge implementation strategies to communicate and inform policy/programme decisions and actions at local, national and/or global levels.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the current gaps and limitation of evidence within the public health discipline, and leadership/future leadership in public health problem oriented experiential learning practice, and advanced theory and practice in epidemiology.
- Demonstrate the critical thinking on limitations of the theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of issues within public health.

Admission Requirements
Applicants should have at a minimum, a master degree in the health sciences or related field; and at least three years of full-time public health and/or health service experience in a relevant discipline.
Applicants who received their Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from a university where the medium of instruction was not English are required to provide any of the following as proof of English proficiency:
- Obtained a TOEFL score of 507 (paper-based examination) / 64 (Internet-based examination) or above or,
- An IELTS overall score of 5.5 or above with no sub-score lower than 5.0 or,
- Level 4 of College English Test (CET-4) score of 425 or above.
