The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM) joyfully hosted its Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering and Teacher’s Day Celebration on 16 October 2025. Despite the delay due to the hit by Typhoon Ragasa, the event was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, drawing around 350 participants, including students, teachers, researchers, staff, and alumni, for an evening of festive cheer and heartfelt appreciation.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome from Dean Chuxia DENG, who extended his heartfelt greetings and festive wishes to all attendees. Reflecting on the event’s postponement, Dean Deng remarked that meaningful things often come with challenges, just like in research and academic pursuits, where setbacks and obstacles are part of the process. He emphasised the importance of perseverance, noting that with continued effort, rewarding outcomes will eventually follow. He also likened the spirit of the Mid-Autumn Festival to the collective dedication and achievements of the FHS community, expressing sincere appreciation for everyone’s contributions.
The celebration featured a series of special performances that added a personal and artistic touch to the evening. A heartfelt violin-piano duet by Dean Deng and pianist Ziheng XU, a former participant of the Health Sciences Summer Camp, captivated the audience with its expressive and engaging rhythm. Associate Dean Renhe XU also took the stage with a soulful musical performance, showcasing his artistic flair beyond academia. Chelsia CHAU, a former administrative staff member, returned to the FHS stage with a touching vocal performance that resonated with many.
The karaoke singing contest was another highlight of the evening. Undergraduate student Xinyu ZHANG was voted Best Singer and received her prize from Associate Dean Hanming SHEN. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a delightful spread of traditional Mid-Autumn refreshments and participated in a variety of interactive activities. Game booths such as the ‘wishing wall’ and DIY festive candy were especially popular, while several instagrammable spots, including a giant lantern wall, provided picturesque backdrops for capturing joyful moments. Lucky draws were held continuously throughout the event, adding excitement and anticipation as attendees eagerly awaited each round of prize announcements.
The Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering and Teacher’s Day Celebration fostered a strong sense of community and celebration among the FHS members. The celestial glow of the moon added a magical touch to the festivities, making it a truly memorable evening.
