To help new students begin a fulfilling university life, FHS held seven orientation sessions, including one jointly held session with ICI, for nearly 400 postgraduate and undergraduate students admitted in the 2025/2026 academic year, marking the start of their academic journey. Of those, two sessions were dedicated to the doctoral programmes, namely Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences and Doctor of Public Health.
Dean Chuxia DENG welcomed the new students to the FHS family and encouraged them to cherish their time at university, to always maintain a thirst for knowledge, be diligent and self-disciplined, constantly enrich themselves, and develop independent thinking and innovative abilities. Dean Deng also introduced the history and development of FHS and shared practical study tips and strategies.
Subsequently, Assistant Dean Xuanjun ZHANG; Department Head of the Department of Public Health and Medical Administration, Prof Xiang Yutao; Programme Coordinator for the MSc in Data Science—Precision Medicine, Prof Terence Chuen Wai POON; Department Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Prof Henry Hang Fai KWOK; Department Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Ying ZHENG; and Programme Coordinator for the BSc in Bioinformatics, Prof Ningyi SHAO, each provided incoming doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students with detailed introductions to useful course information, learning resources, and teaching teams, aiming to help them adapt to and integrate into the distinctly different life at university as quickly as possible. The sessions included Q&A segments, giving students the opportunity to interact with professors and current students, and to gain deeper insights into their chosen fields.
FHS hopes that, through the orientation, new students will better understand UM and FHS, and integrate into an exciting and memorable campus life at the earliest opportunity. FHS also looks forward to helping new students set sail here and move towards a bright future together.
