Prof. Edwin CHEUNG and Prof. Chen MING recently led FHS undergraduate and postgraduate students to a tour of BGI Genomics in Shenzhen, including a visit to the newly established BGI Space and Time Center and a participation in a seminar. This visit enriched the students’ understanding of the genomics industry.

Established as the core exhibition area of BGI Genomics, the Space and Time Center contains a large number of high-end scientific research equipment such as space-time genomics laboratories, synthesis laboratories, mass spectrometry, as well as other ancillary areas such as office areas. Through various exhibitions, students learned about BGI Genomics’ contributions to human health, agricultural development, and environmental protection, amongst other fields. They also realised the progress of gene sequencing technology and the huge potential of genomics in addressing global challenges.

This visit not only deepened the students’ academic knowledge, but also enhanced the communication and interaction between the faculties and the students. During the visit and discussion, everyone shared their enthusiasm for scientific exploration, which inspired more students to be interested in the field of genomics.

FHS is committed to providing students with a high-quality learning experience. By organising academic activities such as different thematic lectures, visits and seminars; students can be exposed to cutting-edge scientific research outputs, communicate with researchers and industry figures from different fields, and explore the inner workings of the industries. These all contribute to helping students to determine their future career development.
