A delegation from FHS led by Dean Chuxia DENG, visited Shanghai previously, to strengthen academic and industrial ties in the biomedical field. The delegation held a high-level meeting with Hongzhong MIN, Head of the Shanghai Office of The Chinese Association for Science and Technology USA and Chairman of Shanghai Yadebao Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Chunfeng CHEN, President of the Belt and Road (International) Research Institute.
The meeting focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in biomedical research, technology transfer and industrial application. Dean Deng introduced the faculty’s latest developments in research infrastructure, international partnerships and talent cultivation. He emphasised Macao’s historical role as a gateway for East-West exchange along the Maritime Silk Road and its renewed strategic significance under the Belt and Road Initiative. With its unique position and strengths in health sciences, Macao is well-placed to contribute to global health innovation.
Dean Deng reaffirmed FHS’s commitment to leveraging scientific research and education to improve public health outcomes across the region and beyond. He highlighted the Faculty’s readiness to collaborate with industry leaders and policy think tanks to accelerate the translation of research into impactful solutions.
During the meeting, the three parties reached a strong consensus on advancing cooperation in biomedical innovation. Discussions centered on integrating complementary strengths to drive frontier medical research, conduct high-quality clinical trials, and promote the development and application of novel therapeutics. All parties agreed on the importance of pooling expertise to develop safer and more effective treatment solutions that benefit patients and enhance public health and quality of life.The collaboration is also expected to contribute to broader platforms under the Belt and Road Initiative, enabling shared access to outcomes and fostering a global health industry community with common goals.
This visit not only deepened mutual understanding but also injected new momentum into FHS’s international engagement and efforts to translate scientific excellence into real-world impact. In addition to Dean Deng, the delegation included Associate Dean Ren-He XU, Assistant Dean Lijun DI, Professor Edwin Chong Wing CHEUNG, Associate Professors Joong Sup SHIM, Kin Yip TAM and Hongjie ZHANG and Assistant Professor Zhenghai TANG from FHS. Professor Qu Songnan from the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering also joined the delegation.
