The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the FHS Badminton Tournament at the UM Sports Complex. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from students, staff members, and alumni, and aimed to strengthen interaction among members of the faculty while promoting awareness of healthy lifestyles.
At the opening ceremony, FHS Dean Chuxia DENG delivered welcoming remarks to all participants, highlighting the irreplaceable role of regular physical activity in maintaining both physical and mental well-being. She encouraged students, staff, and alumni to cultivate sustainable exercise habits amid their busy academic and professional lives in order to enhance overall health. A total of 12 doubles teams took part in the tournament. Whether students, colleagues, or alumni, all participants demonstrated strong teamwork and technical skills on the court, creating a competitive yet joyful atmosphere.
The event followed a structured format, beginning with a round-robin group stage in which the pairs were divided into two groups. The top four teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals and semifinals, which were played in a best-of-three format. The third-place playoff and championship final featured exciting rallies and closely contested exchanges.
After hours of thrilling competition, the tournament concluded with an award ceremony and closing remarks by FHS Associate Dean Ren-He XU. Prof Xu presented awards to the top four teams and commended all participants for their outstanding performances and exemplary sportsmanship throughout the competition. The event ended amid warm applause and a cheerful atmosphere, leaving participants with a memorable and fulfilling experience.
