The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) held an admission sharing, a lab tour and programme consultations for outstanding local students under the Principals’ Recommended Admission (PRA) Scheme and their families recently on 28 September, following the PRA Talk offered by UM Registry.

During the admission sharing talk, Assistant Dean Xuanjun ZHANG warmly welcomed the students and introduced the features of the academic programmes and the study programmes that are jointly launched with other top universities. He mentioned that FHS partners with other leading universities to provide the joint programmes through which graduates of the programmes will receive Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine or Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Nutrition from the partner universities in addition to Bachelor of Sciences in Biomedical Sciences conferred by UM.

Prof Ruiyu XIE, Prof Ligen LIN and Prof Ningyi SHAO, being the associate heads of or programme coordinator in Department of Biomedical Sciences, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Department of Public Health and Medicinal Administration respectively, provided consultations on the programmes in response to the enquiries from the students and their parents. Led by Prof Wakam CHANG and Prof Chon-Kit CHOU, the PRA students visited the core facilities of FHS and the laboratories of Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) to understand the education and research of health sciences at UM. The students were interested in animal research, and amazed at the advanced zebrafish breeding system of the aquatic room, as well as the state-of-the-art equipment of the rodent room. The students also visited the residential colleges to experience the atmosphere of university life. The event combined tour and student-teacher exchanges in an interactive way, allowing participants to meet professors and to explore UM and FHS.

UM’s PRA Scheme aims to recruit outstanding local students who possess excellent academic performance and positive character traits, as well as students with special talents who are actively involved in community service.
