Recently, a delegation led by Prof. Renhe XU, Associate Dean (Research) and Prof. Guokai CHEN, Associate Dean (Teaching) of the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) visited the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau (ISAF) of Macao S.A.R and was warmly received by Mr. Sai Ian LEI, Vice-President of ISAF.
Mr. Sai Ian LEI provided an overview of the ISAF’s organizational structure, responsibilities, and vision at the meeting. Prof. Renhe Xu introduced the development of FHS in the past 10 years and the leading and supportive role of the Faculty in biomedical research and education rapidly emerged in Macao and beyond. Prof. Guokai CHEN introduced the current teaching curriculum of the Faculty and the prospects of the graduates. Both parties exchanged opinions on how to facilitate the translation of biomedical discoveries by Macao scientists.
They further discussed on the regulation and registration of cell therapy, gene therapy, chemical drugs, third-party quality inspection of pharmaceuticals, and medical devices as well as the possibility to conduct clinical studies and trials in Macao. Mr. Lei clarified the relevant procedures and policies in these aspects. The talent demand and job market in biomedical field were also the topics in the meeting. Both parties had in-depth discussions and expressed their intention to develop a close collaboration in the future to promote the development and industrialization of biomedical research in Macao.
Other attendants of the meeting included Mr. Chi Ieong LEI, Chief of the Department of Registration of ISAF, Mr. Tak In CHAN, Chief of the Division of Chemical Medicines and Devices of ISAF, and the faculty members of FHS, Prof. Elaine Lai Han LEUNG, Prof. Tzu-Ming LIU, Prof. Kin Yip TAM and Prof. Kai MIAO.
Both parties exchanged opinions during the meeting.
