FHS took part in the 7th Macau Industrial Products Show during 1 to 4 October at Macau Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre. Prof. Wenhua ZHENG presented his research work on “Study on the Therapeutic Effect of Artemisinin Drugs on Alzheimer’s Disease” with an aim to illustrate its industrialization potential in the booth of the University of Macau (UM). Participants learnt more about the latest studies and plausible therapies of the Alzheimer’s Disease.
Prof. Wenhua ZHENG has many years of experience studying the mechanism for using artemisinin to treat disease. He was the first to discover that artemisinin has a neuroprotective effect against cell damage caused by oxidative stress, and may become a therapeutic agent for central nervous system diseases. His research team discovered that artemisinin and its derivative artemether have neuroprotective effects on Alzheimer’s disease and are related to the activation of AMPK and ERK signaling pathways, which brings new hope for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
The 7th Macau Industrial Product Show, organized by the Industrial Association of Macau was aimed at promoting economic diversification and developing Macao local brands. The show contained 6 exhibition areas and covered nearly 200 booths. UM set up its booth in the Macau Industrial Complex to showcase its impressive results in research, targeting to enhance public understanding of UM and explore opportunities for industry-academia collaboration.
