The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) and Chongqing University Cancer Hospital held the virtual signing ceremony to launch the joint doctorate programme on 6 June. Under the agreement, both parties will carry out collaboration in academic affairs and scientific research, with the aim of exploiting the strengths in oncology research of both parties for promoting talent cultivation and in-depth collaborative research of Macao and Chongqing, and ultimately benefit the well-being of mankind and the society.
FHS Dean Chuxia DENG, conducted a presentation about the progress and the accomplishments of the Faculty and the Ministry of Education Frontiers Science Center for Precision Oncology. He said that with the great support of UM and Macao SAR Government, FHS’s research teams have made breakthroughs in basic research, particularly in cancer research and precision oncology. He hopes that both parties will collaborate successfully in the doctorate student training to produce graduates of distinction, aspiring to enhance the development of scientific research in China.
Subsequently, Chongqing University Cancer Hospital President Bo XU introduced that Chongqing University Cancer Hospital is a national Level 3 Grade A specialized cancer hospital, that integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation. He hopes that the collaboration in this joint doctorate programme will help both institutions explore new modes of collaboration in the development of academic disciplines and scientific research, further enhancing the partnership to make a significant contribution to the development of both parties. At the ceremony, Prof. Chuxia DENG and Prof. Bo XU signed the agreement to establish the joint doctorate programme, and the first batch of joint PhD students will be admitted in the 2022/2023 academic year.
